The Time Drain of Asbestos Surveying Reports. Asbestos Surveyings are crucial for maintaining safety standards in buildings, but the process of creating comprehensive reports can often become a time-consuming process. Several challenges contribute to this issue, each demanding careful attention and innovative solutions.
Data Collection Complexity. One of the primary challenges faced by Asbestos Inspectors is the complexity of data collection during site surveys. From documenting Asbestos conditions to noting potential hazards, gathering accurate and detailed information can be a time-intensive task.

Translating handwritten notes into coherent and professional reports requires significant time and effort, leading to delays in the overall inspection process.
Utilizing Mobile Software. By addressing these challenges with innovative digital solutions, Asbestos Inspectors can optimize their workflow, minimize time spent on report creation, and ultimately contribute to improved safety standards in buildings.

Asbestos was popular in the UK throughout the 20th century because it was cheap, fire-resistant, soundproof, and a strong insulator. It was used in insulation, floor tiles, cement products, and decorative finishes. Its widespread use peaked in the 1960s and 70s before health risks became widely recognised.
Asbestos was banned in stages: blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite) in 1985 and white (chrysotile) in 1999. The bans followed growing evidence linking asbestos exposure to deadly diseases such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. Today, any building built before 2000 may still contain asbestos.
Yes, asbestos can pose a health risk, but only when fibres are airborne. Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can be safely managed if left undisturbed and in good condition. The danger arises during drilling, sanding, or renovation work, which can release harmful fibres into the air.
Over 3,000 products used asbestos, including Artex ceiling coatings, toilet cisterns, fuse boxes, fire blankets, and even ironing boards. Some older buildings may still contain hidden ACMs in textured coatings, pipe lagging, or garage roofs, making surveys essential before refurbishment.
The only way to know is to commission a professional asbestos survey. Visual inspections are unreliable, and asbestos can't be identified by sight alone. A qualified surveyor will sample materials and produce a report showing the type, location, and condition of any ACMs.
